THREE MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

8.16.04 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA - Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan, the 2003 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, leads a contingent of three Owls named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 Conference preseason men's soccer team. Hannigan, one of the nation's top returning keepers, is joined on the squad by teammates Tony Donatelli and Joe Brocker, both second team all-league performers in 2003.

As a junior last season, Hannigan tied the Owls' school-record with a league-high nine shutouts en route to an A-10-leading 0.68 goals against average. Hannigan was 9-5-3 in net with a .867 save percentage.

Brocker, the team's junior sweeper back, assisted on four goals last year and keyed the Temple defense that posted 11 shutouts en route to a 13-6-3 record. Like Hannigan, Brocker was named to the NSCAA/addidas all-Mid-Atlantic region team last year.

Donatelli, a junior midfielder, tallied seven goals and assisted on two others for a total of 16 points. He was the team's second leading scorer. Head coach David MacWilliams also returns senior forward Nate Webb, who led the Owls with 11 goals in 2003.

Rounding out the preseason all-Atlantic 10 men's soccer team is forward Colin Vint and back Joe Lahoud of Richmond, La Salle midfielder Kevin Coleman, midfielder Derek MacKenzie and back Noah Salsi of Duquesne, forward Chris Rolfe and midfielder Tye Stebbins of Dayton, and Rhode Island forward Sasha Gotsmanov.

The Owls open play with an exhibition match against the Barbados Soccer Academy at their new Ambler Soccer Field on Monday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m.
