HORSHAM, PA -- The Temple men's soccer team had its final tune-up prior to the start of the regular season, defeating Villanova, 1-0, in an exhibition match held at the Ukranian National Club. The match was part of a Philadelphia Soccer Seven Play Day, which featured all seven Soccer Seven teams and Holy Family taking part in exhibition matches.

Freshman Matt McClain, who connected on a bicycle kick in the Owls' 6-0 win over Barbados earlier in the week, accounted for the game's only goal. McClain scored off an assist from junior sweeper Joe Brocker in the 35th minute of play.

Freshmen Tony Prattico and Mike Birnbaum combined for the shutout.

"I was pleased with the effort today," stated Temple coach David MacWilliams. "We were missing a few of our starters, but the guys played well. I feel we are ready to open the season."

The Owls, picked second in the preseason A-10 coaches' poll behind Dayton, better be ready as they open the season at the adidas Wolfpack Classic against Duke on Saturday night (7:00 p.m.). Temple then takes on North Carolina State the next day, a team they defeated last year in Raleigh, 1-0.
