MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS RUTGERS, 1-0
9.15.04 | Men's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, NJ - Junior midfielder Tony Donatelli connected on his first goal of the season, blasting a drive from 20-yards out past goalie Lubos Ancin in the 17th minute to lift Temple to a 1-0 win over Rutgers at Yurcak Field. The Owls improve to 2-3 on the season while the Scarlet Knights fall to 1-2-2.
Donatelli recorded the only two shots on goal for Temple as Rutgers dominated on the offensive end, firing 16 shots at senior keeper Patrick Hannigan. The Owls' goalkeeper, who tied a school-record with nine shutous last season, was more than up to the challenge, making six saves in posting his first shutout of 2004.
Rain began to fall just prior to the beginning of the match and grew heavy at times during the first half, continuing throughout most of the game. The weather made for slippery conditions for both teams.
Temple next plays Saturday at 2:00 p.m, when it travels to Drexel for a Soccer Seven match.
