WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS TAKES FIRST IN TRI-MEET AT URSINUS

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Temple women's gymnastics team won three of four events en route to a 184.825 score to defeat host Ursinus (179.975) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (178.375) at Helferrich Hall Friday evening. Junior Lindsey Stern claimed victory on beam (9.550) and shared top position with teammates Cheryl Cerminaro and Sarah Leibowitz on bars with a 9.450 effort as the Owls improved their record to 5-5 after four competitions.

 

Leibowitz also captured the all-around with a 36.850 score. It marked the first time this season that 20th-year head coach Ken Anderson fielded an all-around competitor. Cerminaro and junior Jennifer Blatt competed in three events.

 

Junior Deidre Mattocks earned first on vault, turning-in a 9.475 as the Owls had the individual winner on each apparatus except the floor exercise, where the Bears' Brianna Morrisey posted a 9.725 to win the event. Temple's top performer on floor was freshman Alycia Petitto, who placed tied for second with a 9.625.

 

Temple won the vault (46.125), bars (46.600) and beam (46.025), but finished third in the floor exercise with a 46.075 score behind Ursinus (47.050) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (46.225).

 

The Owls return to action this Saturday at 12 noon when they host city rival Penn in a dual meet at McGonigle Hall.
