TEMPLE WOMEN OPEN UP A-10 PLAY AGAINST UMASS TUESDAY NIGHT AT 7 P.M.

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women (8-3) begin Atlantic-10 play tomorrow night with a match-up against the University of Massachusetts (7-4) at 7 p.m. Head Coach Dawn Staley will be honored in a post-game ceremony by USA Basketball. Staley was named the organization's 2004 Female Athlete of the Year.

The Owls are coming off of a 73-64 victory over Hampton on Sunday afternoon in which Cynthia Jordan scored 16 points and Candice Dupree and Kamesha Hairston chipped in with 15 points a piece to lead Temple to its fifth straight victory. Dupree added a game-high of 12 rebounds to her 15 points, earning her fourth double-double of the season, while Jordan had a game and season-high nine assists to compliment her tally.

Dupree leads the way for TU with 15.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game to pace three Owls in double figures. She is followed by Jordan (13.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg), and Hairston (10.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg).

Next up for the Owls are a pair of A-10 road games against the Rams. Temple travels to Rhode Island to take on the URI Rams on January 7th at 7 p.m. and then to New York to match-up against the Fordham Rams on January 9th at 2 p.m.

The University of Massachusetts (7-4) overcame a 13-point first-half deficit to defeat Elon, 57-50, on December 30th in the consolation game of the Terrapin Classic. The Minutewomen won despite shooting just 37 percent from the field by forcing 28 turnovers and out-rebounding Elon, 35-24. Katie Nelson led Massachusetts with 11 points and was 3-for-5 from three-point range. Brooke Campbell finished with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. She also had four steals. Tamara Tatham had eight points, five boards and a career-high six steals.

UMass is led by Pam Rosanio, who is averaging 10.5 ppg, while Tatham is chipping in with 10.0 ppg and a team-leading 28 steals. Campbell is tops in rebounds (9.0 rpg), while Nelson leads in assists (42).
