TEMPLE WOMEN LOOK TO GO 2-0 IN A-10 PLAY WITH TRIP TO RHODE ISLAND ON FRIDAY

PHILADELPHIA-The Temple women (9-3, 1-0 A-10) are looking to go 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play and continue their six-game winning streak with a trip to Rhode Island (3-9, 1-0 A-10) on Friday at 7 p.m. Follow the game live on Gametracker by logging on to URI's website www.gorhody.com.
Jennifer Owens, Kamesha Hairston and Cynthia Jordan led a balanced attack, all netting 12 points a piece to lead the Temple women to their sixth straight victory, a 59-43 win over UMass on Tuesday night. Temple was able to gain to control of the game from the very beginning, thanks in part to UMass' 17 first half turnovers. The Minutewomen fought to keep it close but a series of short runs allowed Temple to gain as much as a 20-point lead throughout the contest. Candice Dupree also netted in double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high seven rebounds. Jordan and Hairston combined for six steals to bolster the Owl defense.
Dupree leads the way for TU with 15.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to pace three Owls in double figures. She is followed by Jordan (13.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg), and Hairston (10.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
The Owls continue their road stand against the Rams, traveling to New York to match-up against Fordham on January 9th at 2 p.m.
Senior Peta Kneen recorded a double-double and senior Katie Stailing returned from an injury to score 14 points as Rhode Island won its Atlantic 10 opener 71-60 over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night. Kneen toyed with a triple-double, scoring a game-high 19 points, grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds and tying another career-high with seven assists.
Rhode Island is led by Kneen, who is averaging 15.3 ppg, while Tanya Rhodes is chipping in with 12.8 ppg and team leads of 7.3 rpg and 36 steals. Safi Mojidi rounds out the double-figure scoring (12.3 ppg) and a team-high 38 assists.
Series History: This is the 42nd meeting between the Temple Owls and the Rhode Island Rams. Temple leads the series, 27-14. In the teams' last meeting on February 1, 2004, the Rams outlasted the Owls, 60-59.
