DUPREE NETS 16 TO LEAD TEMPLE WOMEN TO EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN, 67-53 VS. FORDHAM

BRONX, NY-Candice Dupree and Kamesha Hairston tallied a repeat performance of Friday night to lead Temple to its eighth straight win, a 67-51 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon. Dupree scored 16 to lead Temple, while Hairston tallied 13.The Owls improve to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic 10, while the Rams fall to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the A-10.

The game got off to a rough start with neither team turning in a stellar offensive performance. Though Temple held the Rams scoreless until the 15:31 mark, the Owls had amassed just four points in that five-minute span. Joy Johnson, who finished the contest with a game-high 19 points, netted Fordham's first two buckets to tie the score at four at 14:34. Dupree then scored six straight points to give Temple an 11-4 cushion but Johnson answered with a run of her own to pull Fordham within six points. The Owls continued to hold a comfortable lead until three straight turnovers allowed the Rams to come within two points by 8:38. Fordham kept it close, never allowing the Owls to gain more than a five point lead for the remainder of the half. A half-court shot by Cynthia Jordan at the buzzer, however, gave Temple a 31-23 lead going into halftime.

Temple seemed to find its rhythm in the second stanza, beginning the half with a 7-0 run to take a 38-23 lead at the 18 minute mark. Jada Jefferson finally got the Rams on the board with a jumper at 17:47but the Owls had already built a considerable lead.Hairston hit three straight three-point shots to open up a 20-point lead with 20 minutes remaining. This advantage would hold for most of the second half. Fordham had a bit more luck with the Temple bench but not much as the reserves still allowed the Owls to walk away with their eighth straight win, a 67-51 victory.

Ari Moore was the leading rebounder for Temple, grabbing nine. Moore added a game-high four steals to her six points. Jordan dished out six assists, while on her way to her second zero-turnover game of the season.

Johnson and Jefferson were an offensive tandum for the Rams with Jefferson scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Johnson also tallied a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her 19 points.

Temple returns home to take on St. Bonaventure on Thursday at 12 p.m. The game will be held in conjunction with Dawn Staley Day.
