PHILADELPHIA - In preparation for 2005 Homecoming Weekend, Temple Football and Bassetts Ice Cream have teamed up to offer fans a special flavor called "Owlscream," a mixture of Bing cherries and Bassetts famous rich vanilla bean ice cream. The ice cream will include a special topping, a cookie replica of the well-known Temple "T," on each serving. The cookie "T" will be decorated with red sugar. The cherry and vanilla flavor is a nod to Temple University's famous two-hue scheme, cherry and white. The Temple Owls football team will take on the nationally ranked Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, October 15 at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.
Bassetts and Temple, with the help of the Temple Marching Band, mascot Hooter, cheerleading squad and members of the Diamond Gems dance team, will unveil the special flavor as part of a pep rally on Friday, October 14 at Reading Terminal Market at 12:30 p.m. Any person who stops by the Bassetts Ice Cream location in the Reading Terminal Market, and is sporting Temple attire (hat, t-shirt, etc.) or has a Temple ID, will receive a special discount on the Temple themed flavor and all other flavors/items. Plus, there will be special deals and discounts from other vendors at Reading Terminal Market in support of the Temple Pep Rally. Patrons will also have the chance to win tickets and receive discounted coupons to the Temple-Miami Homecoming Game.
