MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS GW, 1-0, IN REMATCH OF TITLE GAME

10.16.05 | Men's Soccer

WASHINGTON, DC -- Temple extracted a little revenge Sunday afternoon in posting a 1-0 win over host George Washington at the Mount Vernon Soccer Complex, but it came at a price.  The Owls won the rematch of last year's A-10 title contest on the same field, but junior back Chris Shelton may be lost for an extended period following a leg injury.  X-rays were inconclusive Sunday and the Sewell, N.J. native will be evaluated Monday to determine the extent of his injury.

Senior Tony Donatelli tallied the lone score in the contest.  The Owl midfielder finished a pass in the box from freshman Mike Rinker in the 42nd minute. Rinker, who was inserted into the game just moments prior to the game-winner, recorded his first collegiate point on the play.  For Donatelli, it was his team-high fourth goal of the season, and his 20th of his stellar career.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tony Pratico posted his first win of the season, making three saves in recording his second collegiate shutout.  Derek Bliss made two saves for the Colonials (5-5-2, 1-3-0), who out shot the Owls 9-4 in the contest.

The victory snapped a five-match losing streak for the Owls and upped the team's record to 3-9 (1-2 in A-10 play).  Temple travels to La Salle Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. match.
