AMHERST, VA -- The Temple golf team, in its final event of the fall season, shot a three round 954 (318-321-315) to finish 10th at the Frank Landry Invitational, played October 17-18 at Poplar Grove Golf Course. Junior James Boose was the Owls' top performer, carding an 11-over 227 (76-74-77) on the par 72, 7,059-yard course.

 

Host Liberty won the 10-team tournament, posting an 879 (289-291-299) to finish 10 strokes ahead of both Maryland and George Mason, who placed tied for second with 889 efforts. Liberty placed three golfers in the top six as Peter Hong finished fourth (218), Andrew Turner placed fifth (219) and Richard Sanchez earned sixth (220).

 

George Mason senior Mike Kirby, one of two players to conclude the event under par, walked away with individual medalist honors, carding a two-under 214 (70-71-73). Towson's Jeff Castle finished one shot back at one-under-par 215 (72-73-70), thanks to the best round on the final day on Tuesday with a two-under-par 70.

 

Junior Logan Terry, rebounded from an opening round 88 to shoot a 74 and 77 in the second and third round, respectively, to finish tied for 43rd with a 240 total. Freshman Adam Pifer (47th, 83-79-80=242), sophomore A.J. Tomasello (49th, 78-91-83=252) and freshman Pat Rugg (50th, 81-93-83=257) comprised the rest of the Cherry & White scorecard.

 

The average round of the 50-player tournament was a 76.93. The event featured nine eagles, 390 birdies, 1,426 par efforts, 66 bogeys and 166 double bogeys. Boose led the tournament in par 3 scoring, averaging a 2.92.
