VOLLEYBALL SHUTS OUT URI, 3-0

KINGSTON, R.I.- Senior captain Zhen Jia Liu earned the match's only double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs to lead Temple to a 3-0 shutout of the Rhode Island Rams on Friday night. The Owls, who are currently 5-1 in A-10 play and 12-8 overall, quickly swept the Rams, who are winless in Conference play, 30-25, 30-22 and 30-27.
Christina DeMarco and Patricia Vernon were the only other Owls to tally double figures in kills, with DeMarco earning a match-high 15 and Vernon contributing 12. Temple finished with an impressive .336 hitting percentage, as opposed to the Rams' .203. Both DeMarco and Vernon also finished with three block assists. Maira Mogollon dished a match-high 42 assists.
URI was led by Jillian Bekke and Rachel Bello, who both had 10 kills, while Peggy Doino garnered a match-high 12 digs. Leslie Wiekamp posted 10 digs, while Inga Schlecht dished 33 assists.
Temple will look for its sixth A-10 win tomorrow when it travels to Fordham for a match-up with the New York branch of the Rams at 4 p.m.
