DUKES DOWN OWLS 1-0 IN THE STEEL CITY

10.9.05 | Men's Soccer

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The Temple men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net Sunday afternoon in the Steel City and suffered a 1-0 league defeat to Duquesne in cool and cloudy conditions at Rooney Field. Temple falls to 2-9 (0-2 A-10) and the Dukes improve to 8-2 (2-0 A-10) on the season.

The Owls were able to muster only three shots on goal en route to their fifth consecutive defeat. Duquesne junior goalkeeper Zach Varga turned the three efforts away to earn the shutout.

Sophomore Nick Balara scored an unassisted goal at the 32:50 mark of the first half on a shot that deflected off a Temple player to provide the only scoring.  The Dukes managed five shots on goal and had an 8-3 advantage in the corner kicks category.

Joe Brocker, Ryan Heins and Tony Donetelli were each credited with a shot for the Cherry & White. Tony Pratico made four saves in the losing effort.

Temple, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Dave MacWilliams, returns to the pitch at La Salle in a 3:00 p.m. game this Friday.
