HAMPTON, VA - Candice Dupree led all scorers with 20 points as #19/21 Temple (5-0) dominated Hampton (0-4), 81-38 on Sunday night at the Hampton Convocation Center. The Owls held the Lady Pirates to just three field goals in the second half and shot 50.7% from the field to roll to their fifth straight win. Dupree added five rebounds, four blocks and three steals to her all-star performance, allowing TU to stay undefeated in the 2005-06 season. Kamesha Hairston chipped in with 16 points, while Khadija Bowens dished a team-high seven assists. Nicole Pittman was also a force on defense, blocking a career-high five shots.
Temple jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, an advantage that increased to 12 (14-2) by the 14 minute mark. Monica Rogers was Hampton's sole source of offensive power in the opening minutes, as she got the Lady Pirates on the board with a pair of free throws and scored their first basket at 12:48 to make it 18-4 Temple. The Owls continued to dominate, however, shooting an impressive 54.5% from the field. Hampton began to pick up some momentum in the latter part of the half, cutting the Owls' lead to 11, but Temple went on a 10-4 run down the stretch to take a 43-25 lead going into the break. Hairston led Temple with 12 points in the first stanza, while Bowens dished a season-high six assists.
A Hairston jumper began the second half, extending Temple's lead to 20 points. Rogers made one free throw to end the TU scoring rout but the break was short-lived as Temple broke away to extend its lead by as much as 47 en route to the 81-38 win.
