SIX TEMPLE STUDENT ATHLETES EARN PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER ACADEMIC ALL-AREA HONORS

PHILADELPHIA -- Six Temple University student-athletes were named to the first-ever Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams announced Sunday, December 11.  The six Owls included four senior members of the football team -- William Bradley, John Gross, Jake Hendy and Manuel Tapia -- along with senior Ashley Shepps of the field hockey team and senior Stephanie Vietry of the women's soccer team.  The seven fall sports teams were voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions that comprise the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

 

Bradley, a wide receiver, owns a 3.28 cumulative grade point average as a sports and recreation management major.  An offensive tackle, Gross has compiled a 3.32 cumulative grade point average as a kinesiology major.  Hendy, a punter, boasts a 3.47 cumulative grade point average as a journalism major while Tapia, a linebacker, has compiled a 3.37 cumulative grade point average as a kinesiology major.

 

An all-region defender, Shepps owns a 3.88 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major.  Vietry, a forward, rounds out the Temple representatives with a 3.93 cumulative grade point average as a finance/risk management and insurance major.

 

In all, 90 student-athletes were honored for their academic and athletic excellence by the Philadelphia Inquirer in coordination with Philly--SIDA, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association.
