SPRINTERS DOMINATE AT SEASON-OPENING JACK PYRAH INVITATIONAL

HAVERFORD, PA -- The Temple women's indoor track and field team posted impressive performances in the sprints on Friday at the season-opening Jack Pyrah Invtational hosted by Haverford College. Junior Rachel Johnson won the 500m (1:20.12), classmate Tynisha Gardner finished second in the 300m (41.08) and sophomore Cheryl Anscombe was third in the 55m (7.39).
The Owls especially dominated the 500m, taking the top four spots. Following Johnson were sophomore Shanice DePass (1:20.65), classmate Jessica Starace (1:21.40) and freshman Devon DuPont (1:22.09).
Freshman Brittany Cooper was second in the long jump (15-5) and sophomore Shavaun Christian finished third in the high jump (5-1) for the Cherry and White. Temple also was second in the 4x400 relay (4:00.39).
TU returns to action on Saturday at the New Year Invitational at Princeton.
