COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Temple women's gymnastics team finished third with a 188.950 score in a quad meet at the Comcast Center Pavilion Friday evening. The host Terrapins swept all four events en route to a 192.475 total to capture first, as Rutgers placed second (189.550) and Suny-Brockport finished fourth (180.800).
The Owls finished third in each event and posted their highest score in the floor exercise with a 47.900. Collectively, Temple totaled 47.650 on vault, 47.125 on bars and 46.275 on beam.
Individually, Desiree Meredith posted the Owls' best finish, placing tied for fourth on vault with a 9.600. Sarah Leibovitz paced the team in two events, earning fifth in both bars (9.600) and floor (9.675). Erin Davis provided Temple's best score on beam with a 9.325 effort to finish tenth.
Maryland boasted all four individual event champions, including Rachel Martinez, who won both the vault (9.700) and floor exercise (9.750) en route to the all-around crown (38.775). Temple did not field an all-around competitor, as 13 student-athletes competed in Cherry & White. Alexis Zafferes, Leibowitz and Deidre Mattocks each competed in three events for the Owls.
Temple (7-9) returns to action at the Towson (Md.) Invitational next Saturday (Feb. 19) afternoon.
