Temple Gymnastics Travels to SEC Country for the Florida Quad-Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Temple Owls (1-1) will remain on the road in the second meet of the season as the team will travel to Gainesville, Fla. The Florida Gators of the SEC will host Temple, North Carolina, and West Virginia on Friday, Jan. 9 at 6:45 pm. The meet will be streamed on SEC Network+. LAST TIME OUT
Temple University Gymnastics finished with a 191.350 and a second-place finish in the opening meet of 2026 at Rutgers.
 
ROTATION ONE (BARS: 47.950)
Senior Reese DeHaan set the tone from the jump for Temple and tied a career-high score on bars posting a 9.775. Freshman Ava Sutphen showed no nerves in her first ever collegiate event. She scored a 9.800 on her routine to start the season. Returning to Temple for her sophomore season, Robyn Dunne picked up where she left off. Today's bars routine resulted in a 9.825 and a new career-high on the event for Dunne. This score was the top one posted by an Owl on bars in the meet.Both Dunne and Sutphen finished within the top-three of performers in the meet on bars. Dunne finished tied for first-place and Sutphen sat in third place.
 
ROTATION TWO (BEAM: 46.575)
Today's balance beam lineup featured four Owls making their debut on the event. Hailey Best and Nikki Rengifo return for their junior and sophomore seasons, respectively, but competing on beam for the first time. Ella Beck and Brooklyn Thomas, both freshmen, notched their first collegiate event on the beam. Dunne, once again, shined for the Owls in the meet, this time coming on the beam. She posted a team-high 9.700. With her score of 9.700, Dunne also finished in fourth-place overall on the beam in the meet.
 
ROTATION THREE (FLOOR: 48.525)
Four Owls from last year's squad remain in this year's floor rotation in Mariella Brueck, Amelia Budd, Kyrstin Johnson, and Nikki Rengifo. Budd posted a rotation-high for the Owls with a 9.775. This score also set a career-high for the junior in this event. Johnson, Rengifo, and Thomas all posted solid scored of 9.725, 9.750, and 9.725, respectively.
 
ROTATION FOUR (VAULT: 48.275)
The vault lineup for the opening meet of 2026 found familiar faces from last season competing. Amelia Budd notched the team's highest score on the event with a 9.725. Freshmen Brooklyn Thomas and Jade Harden each posted strong scores for their first time competing on the apparatus at the collegiate level. Thomas finished with a 9.675 and Harden a 9.650.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Florida Gators will compete for the first time this season on Friday. Heading into the season the Gators are ranked third in the WCGA Pre-Season Poll. Recapping last season, the Gators finished the year with a 22-7 overall record, and a 5-3 SEC conference record. Florida had an incredibly strong postseason as the team made it all the way to the semifinals of the tournament before falling to the eventual champion Oklahoma Sooners. Selena Harris-Miranda returns to Florida for her senior year after an incredible junior season. Harris-Miranda posted two perfect scores last season, once on vault and the other on beam.
 
The North Carolina Tar Heels take the floor for the first time this Friday. The Tar Heels are ranked 24th in the WCGA 2026 Pre-Season Poll. UNC finished 7-8 overall last season, going 2-4 in ACC conference play. The Heels competed in the second round of the NCAA Championship tournament but fell to California and Alabama to end its season. The Owls and Heels faced off last season in Chapel Hill and UNC topped Temple 196.675-195.375. Sophomore JoJo Valahovic had a strong freshman season in 2025 for the Heels. She finished with top scores on the team on vault (9.900), beam (9.950), and floor (9.925).
 
The West Virginia Mountaineers also debut in 2026 Friday at Florida. Last season WVU finished 4-14 overall with a 2-7 Big 12 conference record. Temple hosted West Virginia in Philadelphia to begin the 2025 season with the Mountaineers coming out on top 193.600-191.200. West Virginia made it to the regionals round of the NCAA Championships, but fell to Maryland 196.030-195.855. Sophomore Sophia Rice returns to Morgantown after an impressive freshman season at WVU. Rice put up a 9.975 on vault and a 9.9 on floor during her first collegiate season. 
 
UP NEXT
The Owls will return to Philadelphia for the first home meet of the 2026 season when the LIU Sharks come to town. The EAGL Conference meet will be on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 pm in McGonigle Hall. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ and live results can be seen at owlsports.com.
