WOMEN'S TRACK WINS THOMSON INVITATIONAL

NEWARK, DE -- The Temple women's track team won its first invitational of the season this weekend at the Thomson Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware. Three athletes captured gold, including seniors Farren Benson, Rachel Clinton, and sophomore Tynisha Gardner, in the Owls' final tune-up for next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship.

Benson won the long jump wiht a season best leap of 5.46m and also finished second in the triple jump (11.04m). Clinton won the 60m hurdles in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 8.52. The senior is approaching the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 8.43 in the event and will have opportunities at the Last Chance Meet and ECAC Championships to reach the mark.

Gardner ran a season-best time of 57.82 to win the 400m and is closing in on the ECAC qualifying mark of 57.34. Junior Tiffany Duncan placed second in the 500m (1:21.79), while the 4x400 and 4x800 relays both won their events.

Temple was followed by Lehigh, Delaware, Towson and Villanova in the team standings.

The Owls return to action on Saturday for the Atlantic 10 Championships at Rhode Island's Mackal Gym. Women's competition begins at 2:30 p.m.
