MEN'S TENNIS OPENS SPRING WITH LOSSES TO STETSON AND LEHIGH
2.5.05 | Men's Tennis
BETHLEHEM, PA -- The Temple men's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday afternoon at the Lehigh Winter Invitational. The Owls felt left out in the cold, however, as Stetson and host Lehigh defeated the Cherry and White, by identical 6-1 scores.
Senior Yhonny Murray posted the lone point in the Stetson match for Temple, defeating Joey Jones, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, at second singles. Murray re-injured his back in that match and was unable to compete in singles against Lehigh. Junior Elad Ziv took his fourth singles match to three sets before falling to Stetson's Thomas Bross, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Senior Tyler Wynne was able to extend his first singles match with Lehigh's Ty Elser to three sets before falling 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Ziv took the lone Owl point of that match with a solid, 6-3, 6-2, win over Fernandez Cocha despite moving up to the number three singles slot due to Murray's injury. Matt Struble and Ziv teamed for the team's only doubles win, an 8-6 victory at the second doubles slot.
The Owls next take the court at Swarthmore on February 12.
