WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS FINISHES THIRD IN QUAD MEET AT PENN STATE

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Temple women's gymnastics team placed third with a 190.300 score Saturday evening in a quad meet at Recreation Hall. Host and 11th-ranked Penn State scored a 195.500 to win the meet, as Rutgers (193.100) finished second and William & Mary (189.650) placed fourth.

Senior Alexis Zafferes provided the Owls top event finish with a 9.675 on vault to earn a tie for fifth. Junior Jennifer Blatt also performed well on the apparatus, turning-in a 9.600 to place tied for ninth, as TU totaled a 47.825 on vault, its best event of the evening.

Senior Cheryl Cerminaro and junior Lindsay Stern also provided strong showings for the Cherry & White. Cerminaro finished tied for 10th on floor with a 9.575 and Stern placed tied for 10th on beam with a 9.725. Stern also performed all-around, posting a 38.200 to finish fifth.

Penn State freshman Kristal Uzelac scored a 39.300 to finish first in the all-around and also won bars (9.900). Teammate Lisa Clark placed first on the vault (9.775) and captured floor with a 9.875 effort. PSU sophomore Corissa Pirkl was the top performer on beam with a 9.875 score.

Temple (13-14) returns to action at the ECAC Championships in Harrisonburg, Va., on Saturday, March 26.
