OWLS PLACE FIFTH AT ECAC WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

HARRISONBURG, VA -- The Temple women's gymnastics team placed fifth with a 190.125 team score at the ECAC Gymnastics Championships, held Saturday evening at James Madison University's Godwin Hall.

 

Temple's best event of the Championships was floor exercise, as the team combined for a 48.325 total as senior Cheryl Cerminaro led the way with a 9.775. The Owls also performed well on vault with a 48.150 score as fellow upperclassman Lexi Zafferes posted a 9.725 to pace the Cherry & White.

Senior Erin Davis and freshman Christine McNeill each turned in 9.600's on the uneven bars to contribute to the team's 47.875 total. Davis also performed well on balance beam, as she and Cerminaro each recorded 9.425 scores to enhance Temple's 45.775 tally.

Junior Lindsey Stern was the only Owl to compete in the all-around. She posted a 37.625 score.

 

Competing in their first ECAC Gymnastics Championship since 1995, Towson won the title with a 194.525 team score. The Tigers' 194.525 enabled Towson to edge runner-up Rhode Island (192.225), defending champion Pennsylvania (191.975), Yale (191.100), William & Mary (189.750), Cornell (189.525), James Madison (188.500) and Brown (184.325).

The 2005 ECAC Score Master Gymnastics Champion trophy was presented to Towson after the competition ended Saturday night. Sophomore Christina Ghani led the Tigers by finishing first in the all-around competition with a 38.950 score. Ghani was also the ECAC champion on floor exercise with a career-high 9.90 performance.
