WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS FALLS TO RHODE ISLAND

KINGSTON, RI - The Temple women's gymnastics team fell to Rhode Island Saturday afternoon in a duel meet with a final score of 189.625-185.675. Senior Lexi Zafferes earned a 9.675 on vault to win the event, while fellow upperclassman Cheryl Cerminaro posted the top overall score for the Owls with a 9.300 effort on bars to finish third.
On beam, Temple's top performer was Lindsey Stern, who earned a 9.450. Her score was good enough to earn her a second place finish. Cerminaro also posted an impressive score of 9.525 on floor, which was a team best.
Other noteworthy performances were turned in by Jenny Blatt, (9.550, 2nd) and Deirdre Mattocks (9.450, 3rd) on vault, which was one of the Owls' strongest events of the competition.
The loss drops Temple's record to 11-12. Under the direction of 20th-year head coach Ken Anderson, the Cherry and White return to action Saturday, March 12th in a dual meet at Cornell beginning at 1:00 p.m.
