ZAFFERES ADVANCES AT USAG COLLEGIATE NATIONALS

ITHACA, NY -- Temple senior Alexis Zafferes scored a 9.625 on vault Thursday evening to finish eighth on the apparatus during the preliminary round of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals hosted by Cornell. With the effort, the Needham, Mass. native earns USAG All-America honors and advances to compete in the event finals to be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Five Owls competed in Thursday's preliminary round. Senior Erin Davis competed on both bars and beam, finishing 39th (9.175) and 44th (9.075), respectively. Christine McNeill placed 27th on bars with a 9.425 effort, Jennifer Blatt finished 35th on vault with a 9.400 score and Lindsey Stern placed 55th on beam with a 8.850 performance.
108 student-athletes competed during Thursday's preliminary round.
Zafferes also competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional on April 9 and posted a 9.125 score on vault to finish 41st in the event.
