FUN FOR ALL AT CHERRY AND WHITE DAY

AMBLER, PA -- Cherry and White Day was a huge success Saturday afternoon as multitudes of alumni gathered on Temple University's Ambler Campus to take part in athletic competition. The Owl faithful not only had a chance to bring back memories by playing in alumni games, but also were able to take in the Temple baseball doubleheader against visiting Rhode Island as well as the annual Cherry and White Spring Football Game.
The day began with a women's soccer game that featured the Temple varsity team besting a group of alumni, 4-3. Amanda Anderson and Kate Lamplugh each tallied twice to lead the varsity squad. Youth prevailed again in the men's soccer game with the varsity team having its way with the alums, 5-0. Kevin Gallagher led the Owls with three goals while Ryan Heins and Kevin McSherry each tallied once.
In basketball action, the Cherry team squeaked by the White, 39-36. All-time great sharpshooter Mike Vreeswyk ('89) led all scorers with 17 points for the Bill Mlkvy ('52) coached Cherry squad. Jason Ivy ('96) added 10 points while women's basketball player Rachel Marcus ('05) tallied eight points. Chris Laws ('98) led the White with 10 points while the oldest competitor, Si Kilstein ('60), added eight points.
Besides the alumni games there also was exhibitions featuring the Owls' fencing, gymnastics and volleyball teams. Cherry and White Day also featured family fun with giant inflatables, clowns and face painting for children.
