STALEY SELECTED AS 2005 WNBA ALL-STAR

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Temple women's basketball head coach and WNBA star Dawn Staley was selected as an Eastern Conference starter for the 2005 WNBA All-Star game, it was announced today by the WNBA. Voted on by the fans, Staley was the leading vote-getter among Eastern Conference guards. This will mark Staley's fourth appearance as a WNBA All-Star and her third as a starter. She also was a member of the United States Senior National Team that participated in the USA Basketball vs. WNBA All-Stars game held August 5, 2004 at Radio City Music Hall.

A six-year WNBA veteran, Staley is averaging 6.3 points, 5.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 29.8 minutes for the Sting this season. She currently ranks second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.45 a/to), third in assists (5.8 apg) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.478).

Staley has never missed a start in her WNBA career, playing in 208 consecutive games. She ranks among the WNBA's all-time leaders in total assists, assists per game, assists per turnover, minutes, free throw percentage, three-point field goals made, steals and points.

Joining Staley as members of the Eastern Conference starting line-up are New York Liberty guard Becky Hammon, Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings, Detroit Shock forward Swin Cash and Detroit Shock center Ruth Riley.

The 2005 WNBA All-Star will be hosted by the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, July 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be televised nationally on ABC at 4 p.m. ET.
