MEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT HARTWICK, 5-2
9.17.05 | Men's Soccer
ONEOTA, NY -- Normally Will Chevrollier gets mistaken for his twin brother Matt, but not Saturday night at Hartwick. This time, he was mistaken for senior back Joe Brocker and it led to a 5-2 Temple men's soccer loss at regional power Hartwick.
Chevrollier was called for a hard foul in the 69th minute, resulting in a yellow card. The card, however, was given to Brocker, his second of the game, thus becoming red. That left the Owls down a man and the Hawks took advantage, tallying two goals to break open a one-goal game (3-2) en route to the win.
"It is unfortunate," said Temple coach David MacWilliams. "Will Chevrollier actually committed the foul, but the referee signaled it on Brocker. We are going to appeal it with our supervisor of officials to see if we do not have to lose him for another game."
Temple (2-5) took an early lead on a goal by senior co-captain Tony Donatelli. The Owl midfielder was broken free on a pass from freshman Matt Chevrollier at the end of the first half and beat keeper Josh Wagenaar.
Hartwick (4-2) answered in the 52nd minute when Tyler Hemming scored on a header off from a Chris Sardon corner kick to tie the match at 1-1.vvThe Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute when freshman JP Boyle found the back of the net off of McCann's cross.
Matt Chevrollier tied the game in the 61st minute with his first collegiate goal as fellow freshman Mike Rinker notched his first assist.
Chris Jackson netted the game winning goal in the 68th minute and Austin McCann came off the bench to add a pair of insurance goals following Brocker's departure.
Freshman keeper Bryant Hosler recorded a season-high seven saves in the match.
Temple next plays at Duke on Saturday, September 24.
