MORGANTOWN, WV -- West Virginia tallied a goal in each half which was more than enough for goalkeeper Nick Noble as the Mountaineers defeated the visiting Temple Owls, 2-0, in men's soccer action Saturday evening at WVU's Labor Day Classic. The Owls, 0-2, will look to notch their first win of the season when they play host to Soccer Seven foe Penn in their home opener Tuesday afternoon (3:30 p.m.).
Zac Boggs put WVU on the board in the 25th minute, stealing the ball just outside the box and firing it past freshman goalkeeper Bryant Hosler (four saves). Jarrod Smith added an insurance goal at the 67:44 mark to complete the scoring in the contest.
Noble recorded four saves in recording his second straight shutout.
The Mountaineers (2-0) out shot the Owls, 16-9, in the match.
