MEN'S SOCCER LOSES FIRST-EVER MATCH AT AMBLER FIELD, 1-0, TO PENN
9.6.05 | Men's Soccer
AMBLER, PA -- The friendly confines of Ambler Field was not enough to aide the Temple men's soccer attack as the Owls dropped their first home match at their new pitch, 1-0, to Philadelphia Soccer Seven rival Penn. It was the season opener for the Quakers while the Owls fall to 0-3 with the loss.
The game was a defensive battle, especially in the first half as the teams combined for seven shots (TU-4). Penn had the better of it in the second stanza, and finally found the back of the net in the 80th minute. Playing in their first collegiate match, freshman Kevin Unger made a nice pass to his Marquette (WI) High teammate at Mike Klein in the box and the forward put a nice finish on the ball, pushing it past a diving Temple keeper, freshman Bryant Holser (two saves), for the game's lone goal. Junior Dan Crespo made it stand up, recording three saves to earn the shutout.
Penn out-shot
The Owls next travel to Penn to take part in their weekend tournament.
