MEN'S TENNIS DROPS TWO AT VCU INVITATIONAL

RICHMOND, VA -- The Temple men's tennis team opened its spring season at the VCU Invitational Saturday.  The Owls, under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Mauro, dropped matches to East Carolina and East Tennessee State by identical 4-1 scores.  The Owls (3-2) take on Richmond Sunday in their final match of the tournament.

Senior Daniel Davis posted the team's lone win against East Carolina in TU's first match of the day.  Davis, playing third singles, defeated Nick Rose, 7-5, 6-4.  Senior Milan Juricka lost a three-set match at second singles to Henrique Viana, 6-2, 5-7, 10-4.

Sophomore Zach Tobias was the lone Owl winner against East Tennessee State, winning his #4 singles match, 6-4, 6-4, over Matt Stanley.  Davis moved up to first singles, falling to Felix Insaurralde, 6-1, 6-2. Seniors Jon Sy and Juricka fell in doubles competition, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
