PISCATAWAY, NJ -- The Temple Owls fell to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in their first dual meet of the season with a final score of 191.650 -- 184.675. Rutgers dominated on all four events. The Owls, however, turned-out some dazzling individual performances, capturing first place on more than one apparatus. Tonight's meet marked the 28th consecutive year that the Owls (0-6) and the Scarlet Knights (3-1) have done battle, since first meeting during the 1979 season.
Freshman Winter Sneed shared first place honors with Rutger's Casey Santangelo on beam with a 9.675 effort. Owl junior Noelle Moore shared first place on floor with Scarlet Knights Beth Fittery and Kelly Straka with a 9.725 showing.
Temple's highest event score was compiled on the vault where the visiting Owls posted a 47.250, falling just short of the Scarlet Knights' 47.800. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Cherry and White on Bars (47.575 -- 45.775), Beam (47.975 - 46.050 and Floor Exercise (48.300 -- 45.600).
Temple will host the Ursinus Bears, the Bridgeport Purple Knights and the Towson Tigers in its home opener on Saturday, January 28, 2006. The meet will be held in McGonigle Hall at 7:00 PM.
