PHILADELPHIA -- Rob Johnson, one of the key components in Rutgers run to the NCAA College Cup in 1994, has been named an assistant men's soccer coach at Temple University, announced Owl head coach David MacWilliams.

"We are pleased to have someone with the playing and coaching experience the likes of Rob Johnson join our staff," said MacWilliams. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and has been a part of winning programs his entire career."

One of the most prolific scorers in Rutgers soccer history, Johnson amassed 90 points, the sixth-most all-time at Rutgers. His 35 goals are tied for seventh all-time, while his 20 career assists are tied for eighth on the RU charts. He is also tied for fifth on the Rutgers' all-time list with 12 game-winning goals.

Johnson scored 13 goals and dished seven assists for 33 points during Rutgers' magical run to the 1994 NCAA semifinals. His best scoring season came during his freshman year in 1991, when he tallied 35 points on 13 goals and nine assists.  It ranks as the 12th best single-season point total in the program's history. Johnson was also a member of the Rutgers varsity wrestling team for one season in 1996.

Upon graduation, Johnson played professionally with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars from 1996-97, while also competing for several A-League teams from 1997-99.

Johnson also brings a wealth of coaching experience.  He served as an assistant coach at Rutgers during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Prior to that, he was the head coach of Gloucester County Community College from 2000-2002.  He has been the head coach of the New Jersey State ODP program for seven years and has also coached several South Jersey youth teams.
