KINGSTON - Dawid Badecki scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute to lead the host Rhode Island Rams to a 2-1 win over Temple in men's soccer action Friday evening at the URI Soccer Complex. The Rams, playing for the first time at home since September 26, imrpove to 7-4-3 overall, 4-1-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Owls fall to 2-9-1, 1-3-0.
Rhode Island jumped out to an early lead courtesy of an own goal in the fourth minute of the contest. Temple freshman J.T. Noone knotted the score at 1-1 with his second goal of the season in the 18th minute of play off an assist by senior Ryan Heins.
That would be all of the scoring until Badecki took a pass from Lukasz Tumicz and fired it past sophomore keeper Bryant Hosler (five saves) for the game-winner. Chris Pennock recorded the shutout for URI, but did not make a save in the contest.
Rhode Island dominated the play on the offensive end, out-shooting Temple to the tune of 15-3. The Rams also had nine corner kicks to the Owls' two.
Temple next travels to Amherst, Mass. for a Sunday afternoon match with the UMass Minutemen. Kick-off is 1:00 p.m.
