Struble, Gegenheimer Win Doubles Title At USC Fall Invitational

COLUMBIA, SC - Senior Matt Struble and junior Philip Gegenheimer won all three of their matches to capture the B-2 Doubles Championship at the USC Fall Invitational held at multiple tennis facilities on the campus of the University of South Carolina this weekend.
Struble and Gegenheimer defeated Trent Graham and Frederic Petrrilli of The Citadel, 8-5, in their first match Friday. Later that day, the Owl duo was leading UAB's Kruno Despotovski and Thomas Weiss, 3-0, when they retired. Struble and Gegenheimer began Saturday with a semifinal win over Hampton's Marco Herrera and Joao Sacomandi, 8-4. The championship match was won by default.
The Cherry and White did not fare as well individually. Gegenheimer and freshman Pavlos Stephanides were the lone Owls to post singles wins. Gegenheimer defeated Brandon Simmons of Barton College, 6-4, 6-3, while Stephanides topped The Citadel's Chris Beach, 6-4, 6-2. The two lost their next singles match on Saturday.
The Owls next take the court at the ITA Championships Thursday at Penn.
