OLEAN, NY - The Temple offense finally got on track in the final match of the season, breaking a four-match scoreless streak with two goals, but it was not enough to offset a hat-trick by St. Bonaventure senior Kevin Omokhua as the Bonnies posted a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Bolivar-Richburg High School. The match had been moved from SBU's McGraw-Jennings Field to an artificial surface at the nearby high school due to heavy rains over the previous three weeks.
On a cold, windswept day, Omokhua opened the scoring in the 24th minute, taking a pass from junior Nikola Vasilev and sending a shot past Temple keeper Tony Pratico (four saves). Just five minutes later, Omokhua made it 2-0 when he drilled a shot to the lower left corner of the net after a crossing pass by freshman Samuel Maheu. Omokhua notched his third goal on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute., beating Bryant Hosler (two saves), who entered the contest at the start of the second half.
Playing in his final match for the Cherry and White, senior Ryan Heins made it 3-1 in teh 78th minute when he converted a penalty kick. Heins beat Bonnies junior keeper Ken Lish with a shot to the left corner.
Temple then cut its deficit down to one goal when sophomore defender James Suevo headed in a corner kick from sophomore forward Warren Richards within the 86th minute.
Besides Heins, Matt Maher and Chris Shelton played in their final match for Temple.
The Owls ended the year at 2-14-1 overall and 1-8-0 in conference games. The Bonnies completed their season with a 3-12-2 overall record (3-4-2 in A-10 play).
