Women's Basketball Lands Five in the Early Signing Period

Philadelphia- Temple head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley has announced that Lindsay Kimmel (Binghamton, N.Y./Harpursville), Marli Bennett (Pilot Mountain, N.C./East Surry), Dawnae Robers (Baltimore, Md./Saint Frances Academy), Qwedia Wallace (Wilmington, N.C./Emsleya Laney) and Shanea Cotton (Gulfport, Miss./Harrison Central/Gulf Coast CC) have all signed National Letters of Intent.
"I'm excited about this recruiting class," said Staley. "They are a strong and talented group and we expect that they will contribute immediately."
Members of this highly talented class were also recruited by schools such as UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, East Carolina, Ohio State, Villanova, Notre Dame and Rutgers.
A 6-0 shooting guard, Kimmel was a third team All-New York State selection as a sophomore and was twice named to the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin's All-Metro team.
Bennett, a 6-1 center that is considered to be one of the top recruits in the state of North Carolina, led her AAU team, Team North Carolina, to its third straight National AAU Junior Olympics title this past spring.
Roberts, a Second Team Baltimore Sun All-Metro selection, led her Saint Frances squad to a 24-4 record and its fourth straight Maryland A Conference title. A 5-9 guard, Roberts and her team have won five out of the last six A Conference titles.
A 5-9 guard, Wallace averaged 13 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals per game for Laney High School. Staley also saw Wallace showcase her talent as a member of the Carolina Force, a Fayetteville-based AAU team.
Cotton, a 6-3 forward, is a transfer from Gulf Coast Community College, where she was a Second Team All-Panhandle Conference selection last season.
