After building a 15-point halftime lead, Temple narrowly escaped a season opening loss at Drexel, 61-50, on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons took a one-point lead with just over two minutes to play but a 13-1 Temple run and three huge blocks by freshman Jasmine Stone down the stretch allowed Temple to improve to 1-0 and 6-1 in season openers under Dawn Staley. Kamesha Hairston led the Owls with 18 points, 14 of which came in the first half, while Stone finished with 13 rebounds, nine points and five blocks. Lady Comfort chipped in with 12 points and Fatima Maddox had 10, thanks to a 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line. Georgia Tech comes to Philadelphia riding a three-game winning streak after posting victories over Mercer (11/10), Appalachian State (11/14) and Georgia State (11/16). The 42-point victory over Georgia State (83-41), marking the first time in school history a team has defeated their first three opponents of the season by 25 points or more. Stephanie Higgs amassed 28 points, 20 of which came in the first half, while Janie Mitchell earned the team's only double-double, grabbing 14 points and 14 boards. Temple is 5-1 in home openers under Dawn Staley, with its only falter coming at the hands of then-ranked #2 LSU on November 23, 2004. This is the third all-time meeting for Temple and Georgia Tech. The series, which dates back to the 1989-90 season, is tied at 1. The Yellow Jackets won the last meeting on December 9, 1990, 83-68.MBB Press Conference vs. ECU (Adam Fisher)
