Philadelphia - Saturday's Temple Football game versus Central Michigan (1:00 p.m.) will mark Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Members of local service academies have been invited to the game, and will be recognized throughout the day.

At halftime of the Temple-Central Michigan game, the Temple Marching Band will dedicate its performance to the Men and Women of the military who are in attendance - the band will play special armed forces hymns - such as "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Also at halftime, Temple Football player Marcques Henderson will be promoted to Staff Sergeant. In 1999, Henderson joined the United States Marines, and just four years later was deployed to Iraq at the start of the war - where he stayed for six months. Henderson is currently part of the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education program, which means he is still on active duty and can be called back to protect our freedom at any time.

Prior to kick-off, boy scouts from the Cradle of Liberty Council, as well as members from the National Guard, will be collecting canned goods outside the Jeep-Chrysler Entrance of Lincoln Financial Field. All fans are encouraged to bring canned food items with them to the game.

Scouts of the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America annually conduct a regional food drive, collecting caned goods and baby formula that is given to Philabundance and local food banks throughout the Philadelphia area. More than 3.5 million tons of canned foods and baby formula have been collected by Scouts and their group leaders and distributed to needy families through a well established network of food banks in the region since the program began in 1988.
