Box Score

Toledo, Ohio- Senior Kamesha Hairston led Temple with 15 points, including 11 in the second half, to lead Temple to a 61-51 win in her home city of Toledo, Ohio on Sunday afternoon. The Owls improve to 3-1 on the year, while Toledo falls to 1-4.  Shenita Landry earned her first double-double of her career with career-highs of 13 points and 14 rebounds.

After a devastating loss on Friday, Temple was tired and hurting...and it really showed from the first whistle.  The Owls had just eight available players and when Fatima Maddox went down with a neck injury just five minutes into the second half, TU had just two reserves for the remainder of the game.

The first half was slow, sloppy and ugly with neither team providing much offensive power.  In fact, at the 16 minute mark, the score was 2-1 in favor of Toledo.  Diana Reidl finally got the Rockets on the board at 17:42.  The Owls were sluggish and careless and it wasn't until 16:55 that the squad even scored.  Lady Comfort converted the second of two free throws to make it 2-1, and Maddox finally gave the Owls their first field goal at 15:40.  Maddox's jumper sparked an 8-0 run to give Temple an 8-2 lead at 12:25.  The slow offense wasn't enough to keep the Rockets at bay, however, and though Toledo suffered a five minute scoring drought, two treys from Danielle Bishop put UT within three (11-8) with just under 12 minutes to play.  Candice Borrows kept Temple on top, hitting two straight three-pointers but the lead was short-lived as a 16-5 Toledo run gave the Rockets a 30-21 advantage at 1:57.  Temple looked dazed and confused throughout most of the first stanza, turning the ball over nine times and shooting a horrid 25.8% from the field.  Toledo wasn't much better, committing 10 miscues, but a 42.4% shooting percentage allowed the Rockets to take a 32-27 lead into the break.

TU came out of the locker room a lot more awake than when they went in, rattling off a 11-0 run to take a 38-32 lead by the 15 minute mark.  The Owls began to play the basketball that they are known for with a stifling half court defense, forcing the Rockets to commit turnovers and take bad shots.  When Maddox was taken off the court, Temple began to play inspired basketball and increased its lead to 13 (53-40) with a Shenita Landry lay-up at the eight minute mark.  The Rockets weren't going down without a fight, however, and a 9-2 Toledo run made it 55-49 with four minutes to play.  That would be as close as Toledo could get, however, as Temple went on a 6-2 run to end the game with a 61-51 result.

Maddox scored nine points before leaving with an injury.  Comfort grabbed 11 rebounds while Ashley Morris had a career-high eight.  Hairston and LaKeisha Eaddy dished three assists a piece.

Reidl led Toledo with 13 points and 10 boards, while Nicole Stocks dished six assists.

Temple continues its road trip on Wednesday when it travels to Dawn Staley's alma mater, University of Virginia, for a non-conference match-up at 7 p.m.
