GARDNER WINS 500M AS WOMEN'S TRACK FINISHES TENTH AT A-10S

KINGSTON, RI - Junior Tynisha Gardner dropped nearly two seconds off her season-best time and edged Fordham's Maureen Zivic by .01 to capture the 500m title as the women's indoor track team finished tenth at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. Gardner's time of 1:14.68 also qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
The Philadelphia native also finished fifth in the 200m (25.62) and helped the 4x400 relay place fourth (3:55.78). Sophomore Shanice DePass scored for the Owls with a sixth place showing in the 500m (1:17.92).
Sophomore Noelle McKenzie broke the school record in the 1000m by finishing sixth in the 1000m in a time of 3:00.58. The previous record was held by Tanesha Shelton, who ran a time of 3:01.62 in 2002.
Freshmen Devon DuPont was sixth in the long jump (17-1 1/2) and sophomore Shavaun Christian placed seventh in the high jump (5-1). In the triple, freshman Reava Potter finished eighth (32-2 3/4) to set a new season-best.
Conference newcomer Charlotte, which also won the men's championship, scored 172 points to run away with the team title. The 49ers were followed by La Salle (92), Saint Joseph's (83), Richmond (79), Rhode Island (75), Fordham (73), Dayton (46), Duquesne (41.5), Massachusetts (38), Temple (31.5) and Xavier (10).
The Cherry and White return to the New York City Armory for the Last Chance Meet on Friday.
