WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS DROPS DUAL MEET AT PENN

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's gymnastics team suffered a 187.475-186.975 loss at city rival Penn in a dual meet a Hutchinson Gymnasium Wednesday evening. Junior Jillian Kornett posted a 9.625 on vault to give the Owls their only individual victory in a tightly fought contest.
The Cherry and White won the beam event (46.600- 46.375) while Penn outscored on the other three. The vault provided the means for Temple's best event finish. The Owls scored a 47.250 on the apparatus, while the Quakers scored a 47.275. On bars, TU scored a 46.650 while Penn logged a 46.750. The floor proved to be the most problematic area for the Owls who finished with a 46.475 compared to Penn's 47.075.
Notable Temple performances belonged to senior co-captain Sarah Liebowitz and freshman Natasha Crawford who tied for second on bars, turning out 9.525 performances. Penn's Stephanie Ortiz finished first on the apparatus with a 9.625. Noelle Moore earned second place honors on beam with a 9.525 effort, while Penn's Kerri Lutfey and Ortiz took the first and second place spots scoring 9.600 and 9.550 respectively. Owl sophomore Desireé Meredith found the second place spot behind Kornett on vault with a 9.575. On floor, Kornett logged the highest score for her team, finishing in third place in the event with a score of 9.425. Liebowitz was the Owls' lone All-Around competitor. She finished second with a score of 37.550, placing second between Penn's Ortiz (37.900) and Alexandra Perrotto (37.350).
The Temple Owls (2-11) return to action this Sunday afternoon, February 12, at home in a tri-meet also featuring the University of Rhode Island Rams and the West Chester University Golden Rams.
