PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University Owls fell to the Cornell Big Red in their final home meet of the season. The loss drops the Owls to 5-17 for the season.
The Owls started their first rotation on the vault while the Big Red took the bars. On the vault Brittany Mathews earned the Owls high score, logging a 9.45 and placing third. Cornell's Sari Tepper took first place on the bars turning out a 9.50 effort. Temple finished with a 46.800 on the apparatus while Cornell scored 47.250.
Temple had a tremendous performance on the bars, but could not overcome the Big Red. Cornell recorded a 47.775 in the apparatus while Temple had a 47.550. Owl junior Sarah Liebowitz tied for first place with Cornell's Cathy Schnell, each posting a 9.675. Graduating senior Dierdre Mattocks placed fifth in the event with 9.475 effort.
Junior Noelle Moore produced Temple's best beam performance. Her routine on the apparatus earned Moore a 9.4. Sarah Liebowitz also turned in a memorable performance on the beam, earning her a 9.325.
Moore placed first on the floor exercise, earning a team high score of 9.725 in the meet. Cornell's Megan Gilbert finished second in the event with a 9.625. Owl freshman Natasha Crawford placed third with a 9.5 performance.
The Cherry and White says goodbye to graduating seniors Dierdre Mattocks, Lindsay Stern and Christine Zimmerman. The Owls journey to West Virginia next weekend to complete their regular season competition in a tri-meet against WVA and Rutgers. The meet begins at 1:00 pm. This match up will be the Owls' last regular season competition.
