COLE BREAKS HAMMER THROW RECORD AT MONMOUTH SEASON OPENER

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Freshman Amanda Cole broke the 14-year old hammer throw record as the Temple women's track and field team opened the outdoor season on Saturday at the Monmouth Season Opener. Cole recorded a distance of 117-2 to place fifth in the event and break the previous record of 114-10 set by Sheila Jones in 1992. She also finished 24th in the discus (90-9).
Sophomore Shanice DePass was eighth in the 800m (2:24.96) and classmate Natashia Gehr finished ninth in the 200m (26.64). Fellow sophomore Noelle McKenzie was ninth in the 800m in a time of 2:25.15 and set a new personal best in the 1500m (5:04.83) to finish 22nd.
Temple returns to the oval on Saturday, April 1 at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
