MEN'S TENNIS MAKES IT FOUR IN A ROW WITH 6-1 WIN AT FORDHAM
3.26.06 | Men's Tennis
NEW YORK, NY -- The Temple men's tennis team posted its fourth straight win - and fourth without a loss against Atlantic 10 Conference competition - defeating host Fordham, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. Temple upped its record to 13-4 under first-year head coach Steve Mauro. The 13 wins is the most by an Owl team since the 1996-97 squad posted a 17-8 mark.
Junior Jordan Krevitz dropped his singles match at the number one position, 6-2, 6-2, to Mike Rosado, but that would be all the matches the Owls would lose on the day. Seniors Milan Juricka and Daniel Davis posted straight set wins at second and third singles while junior Matt Struble won in straight sets at the third slot. Freshman Eduardo Saavedra had his opponent retire due to injury after he took a 2-0 lead in the first set. Sophomore Philip Gegenheimer, who picked up his team-high 19th singles win, closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
Senior Jon Sy teamed with Saavedra for an 806 win at first doubles. Juricka and Gegenheimer won their second doubles match, 804, while Davis and Struble improved their record to 6-2 at third doubles with an 8-2 victory.
Temple next plays at Kutztown on Tuesday, March 28 (3:30 p.m.).
