MEN'S TENNIS STAYS PERFECT IN A-10 ACTION WITH 6-1 WIN OVER LA SALLE

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's tennis team improved to a perfect 4-0 against Atlantic 10 Conference competition with a 6-1 win over city-rival La Salle Thursday afternoon. The Owls are now 14-5 overall on the season while the host Explorers fall to 5-2.
The Cherry and White opened play with a sweep at doubles. Eduardo Saavedra and Jon Sy teamed to win 8-5 at the first position while Milan Juricka and A-10 Player of the Week Philip Gegenheimer posted an 8-2 win at the second slot. Matt Struble and Zach Tobias completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at the third slot.
Juricka notched his 18th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Marco Onorato at number one singles. Struble followed suit with his 12th win, posting a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Ross Flockerzie at the second slot. Gegenheimer, the team's win leader with 20 singles victories, won his third singles matches 6-0, 6-0 over Scott Karwowski. Saavedra posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles whole Kris Celtnieks picked up a 6-0, 6-2 sixth singles victory. Zach Tobias lost the first set at fifth singles, 6-3, and was trailing 3-1 in the second set before retiring due to a back injury.
Temple hosts Xavier Saturday at the Cheltenham Tennis Center Saturday (6:00 p.m.) in its final A-10 match of the season.
