WOMEN'S VARSITY 8 AND NOVICE 8 WIN AT BUCKNELL

SHAMOKIN DAM, PA -- In their final tune-up before next weekend's Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, Temple women's crew took to the river at Shamokin Dam in a four-team regatta hosted by Bucknell on Saturday. The Owls won both the Varsity 8 and Novice 8 races, besting crews from Bucknell, Delaware and George Mason.
The Temple Varsity 8, comprised of Laura Altimari (bow), Amanda Barr (2), Rachel Jordan (3), Lauren Fattori (4), Kristen Herrmann (5), Nicole Warrick (6), Ulana Luciw (7), Stephanie Hanlin (stroke) and Sarah Evancho (cox), won their two-crew heat over Bucknell by five seconds and then dominated Delaware in the Grand Final, winning by 25 seconds.
In the largest race of the day, Temple won the Novice 8 by nearly 16 seconds (8:55.44) over second-place George Mason (9:11.00). Bucknell placed third, followed by a second George Mason crew with Delaware rounding out the five-boat field. The Novice 8 was comrpised of Juliana Rausch (bow), Maira DiChiacchio (2), Laura Scullin (3), Carolyn Bailey (4), Katie Reiersen (5), Meghan Shirley (6), Katie Hoban (7), Jess Herrmann (stroke) and Jill Ploof (cox).
Temple's Second Varsity 8 placed third in a three-boat field.
The Owls next compete at the A-10 Championships held at the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. on Saturday, April 22. Trials begin at 8:00 a.m, with the finals commencing at noon. For more information visit the Atlantic 10 website at www.atlantic10.org/sports/wcrew/champs.asp
