PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University Department of Athletics will host a "Partnership Field Day" with four local elementary schools on Wednesday, April 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Edberg-Olson Hall Football Complex, located on the Temple Campus at 11th and Diamond Streets. Later in the day, the football program will host an open practice and barbeque for Temple students from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The Field Day is one of many community outreach projects conducted by the Department of Athletics via its "Owl Outreach" program. Over 160 student-athletes from all of Temple's 24 varsity teams will host approximately 350 students from the Dunbar, Meade, Duckrey and Ferguson elementary schools. The participants will be comprised of third through fifth graders. The elementary school students will compete in a variety of events and relays on the football field with current Temple student-athletes beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Field Day will conclude with an awards ceremony for each grade at 1:30 p.m.
Temple student-athletes have already visited the participating elementary schools to help promote literacy and positive behavior.
Later in the day, the football program will host Temple students at a practice and barbeque social beginning at 4:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the practice, at approximately 6:30, first-year head coach Al Golden, his staff and the football team will meet with students to get them enthused about the upcoming season. Students will enjoy free food, a live D.J., receive a T-shirt, order their Wild Cherry Sports Pass (football and basketball) for the 2006-07 season and receive a tour of the football complex.
