MEN'S TENNIS WNS TWO, ADVANCES TO A-10 SEMIFINALS

MONROEVILLE, PA -- Sophomore Philip Gegenheimer came from 3-0 down in the final set to defeat Victor Lecina, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in his fifth singles match and lift the Temple men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over St. Bonaventure in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament Friday night held at the Club 4 Life. The fifth-seeded Owls defeated the 12th-seeded Saint Louis Bilikens earlier in the day.
It was Gegenheimer's team-high 22nd singles win of the season.
The Owls were swept in doubles to fourth-seeded Bonnies in the last match of the evening to fall behind, 1-0. Alejandro Nery defeated Jordan Krevitz at first singles to put SBU in front 2-0.
Temple would recover to win four of the final five singles matches to improve to 16-7 on the season. Senior Milan Juricka posted his 21st singles win, 6-4, 6-1, over Leo Mochizuki at second singles. Senior Daniel Davis won a three-set match at third singles while Eduardo Saavedra won at sixth singles to account for the Owls fourth point.
In their first match of the say, the Owls took the doubles point on the strength of wins by Juricka and Gegenheimer at the second slot and Davis and Matt Struble in the third position. Juricka, Gegenhemier and Saavedra posted second, fifth and sixth singles, respectively to lift TU to the 4-0 win.
Temple next plays top-seed Charlotte on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
