OWLS' STRUGGLES CONTINUE AT PRINCETON INVITATIONAL

4.9.06 | Men's Golf

PRINCETON, NJ -- The Temple men's golf team continued to struggle this spring season, finishing 14th with a two-round, 56-over par, 624 (323-301) at the Princeton Invitational, played April 8-9 at Springdale Gold Club.  Junior team captain James Boose was the Owls' top performer for the third consecutive tournament, carding an 11-over 153 (81-72) to finish tied for 30th on the par 71, 6,380-yard, course.

Freshmen Pat Rugg (81-76) and Adam Pifer (80-77) both posted, 15-over, 157 scores to finish tied for 51st in the 75-player field.  Sophomore A.J. Tomasello (86-76) and freshman Kevin Busteed (81-81) round-out the Cherry & White scorecard, finishing tied for 71st with, 20-over, 162 efforts.

Columbia won the 14-team event with a, 26-over, 594 (304) effort, two strokes ahead of host Princeton, which had three players finish among the top seven.  George Mason and George Washington finished tied for third, four of the pace, with 598 totals.

Columbia's Chris Condello was the only player to finish the event under par, shooting a 140 (70-70), to capture the individual crown.  Drexel's Patrick Hardin (75-68=143) and Princeton's Drew Malinek (76-69=145), finished second and third, respectively.

The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes, but was shortened to 36 due to poor weather conditions.

Temple, under the direction of second-year head coach Brian Rogers, returns to the links April 22-23 at the Scotty Duncan Memorial at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware. The Owls will be looking to change their fortunes at the event, which has proven fruitful to the team in year's past. Temple won the tournament the past two seasons, in 2004 and 2005.
