WINTER GARDEN, FL - The Temple golf team is in 12th place with a 615 team score after two rounds at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships, played May 5-7 at Orange County National Golf Center. The Owls were in 11th after Friday's opening round with a 303 total, but shot a 312 Saturday to enter Sunday's final round 54 shots off the lead.
Temple freshman Pat Rugg carded a two-over 74 Saturday to enter Sunday's finale tied for 38th with a 151 total. Junior captain James Boose, after shooting a 74 in the opening round, carded a 78 on Saturday and sits tied for 41st at 152. Freshman Adam Pifer (t-50th, 76-79=155), sophomore Kevin Busteed (54th, 76-81=157) and freshman Justin Masters (61st, 84-81=165) comprise the rest of the Cherry & White scorecard.
Charlotte shot a nine-under par 279 during the second round to take a six-stroke lead. The 49ers bettered their first round score by three strokes on the par 72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course. Charlotte (561) holds a six-stroke lead over first round leader Xavier, which followed its 11-under par first round with a two-over 290 for a two-round total of 567. Richmond is in third place, one stroke behind the Musketeers. Rhode Island is in fourth place with a 570, followed by St. Bonaventure (575) and George Washington (579). Saint Joseph's (590), Saint Louis (592), Dayton (595), Duquesne (613), Fordham (614) and La Salle (638) round out the field.
Individually, Richmond's Jordan Utley's back-to-back 68's give him a one stroke lead with an eight-under par 136. St. Bonaventure's Josh Anderson is in second and Xavier's Jason Kokrak in third with a six-under 138.
In all, 17 golfers are at or below par for two rounds. Final round play of the 54-hole event commences on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
