WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2006-07 SCHEDULE

8.30.06 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA

"Every year we seem to have themes with our schedule," said Staley. "Last year we had an SEC theme and this year we have an ACC theme. We don't shy away from playing the best non-conference schedule that we can and, last season, the ACC was the best women's basketball conference in the country. We look forward to welcoming Maryland, the defending national champion, and putting on a good show for our fans."

Maryland finished with a 34-4 record on its way to the 2006 NCAA Championship, while Virginia went 20-12. Temple will look to continue its winning ways against Rutgers, who, ranked #9 last season, gave the Owls their first win over a Top 10 opponent in program history. TU will also hope that the third time is the charm with the Florida, as the Gators have defeated Temple in the teams' last two meetings.

Temple plays host to Georgia Tech, Stony Brook and Brown, as well as Mid American Conference opponents Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan. They will travel to Bowling Green, Toledo, North Carolina State, as well as Staley's alma mater, Virginia, on November 29. The scheduling of MAC teams is part of an agreement with the conference which Temple football becomes an affiliate member for the 2007 season.

TU's match-up at Charlotte on February 18 will be broadcast on ESPNU at 6 p.m.

The Temple men's and women's teams will compete in two doubleheaders this season, with both the women and the men taking on Rhode Island on January 20. On February 4, the women will host Dayton, while the men compete against La Salle.

Staley, entering her seventh season, boasts an impressive 126-59 career coaching record and is ranked 40th on the list of winningest active head coaches (.681 winning percentage). All-A-10 performer Kamesha Hairston returns to lead the Temple offense.

See attached for complete schedule.

- After winning its third straight Atlantic 10 title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, the Temple women's basketball team is back with a non-conference schedule that is sure to give the Owls some steep competition. Head Coach Dawn Staley has packed her schedule with four ACC teams, including defending national champion Maryland, who will visit the Liacouras Center on December 10, as well as Florida and Rutgers. Temple will also compete against Philadelphia rivals Drexel, Villanova and Penn. The Owls begin Atlantic 10 play on January 9, when they host the Saint Joseph's Hawks.
